African Cup of Nations Odds

The decimal odd format is what Australians use to show odds on a team. Odds are usually shown like the example below:

Egypt 6.5

Zimbabwe 3.2

All you have to do is multiply your stake by the odds next to the team. For instance, AU$100 bet on Egypt will give you an outcome of AU$650. You would calculate the odds for Zimbabwe the same way. For example you bet AU$120 x 3.2 (Zimbabwe) = AU$384.

In the last two decades, Cameroon has won three times and are the previous winners of the tournament. The hosting nation, Egypt national football team, has won AFCON seven times and is the most successful team in the tournament. Both teams automatically qualify for the tournament and are old-time favourites for the African Cup of Nations 2019. Aussies should look out for the runner ups who’ve won the tournament at least once – countries such as Nigeria and Ivory Coast.

In 1957, the African Cup of Nations was held in correspondence with the creation of the Confederation of African Football. Three African nations participated in the first tournament; Egypt defeated Sudan in the semi-finals and Ethiopia in the final. Due to the Apartheid policy, South Africa was unable to participate as the fourth competing nation because it failed to approve a multi-racial team. Since 1968, the tournament was hosted every two years. The tournament change in 2013 to accommodate the FIFA World Cup. With the tournament growing, it was necessary to hold a qualifying tournament.

In 1988, the tournament reached sixteen teams but Nigerian leaving the tournament only fifteen teams were left. The format was the same until it changed in 2017, the tournament increased the teams from sixteen to twenty-four.

During the tournament’s history, three different trophies have been awarded to the winning team. Ghana and Cameroon won the first two. The trophy that is currently awarded to the teams was first given to the winning team in 2002.  Egypt made history by winning the tournament seven times.
